Indications have emerged that Peter Obi, a presidential aspirant who had just exited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is considering joining the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), viewed as the party spearheading the third force movement ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The former Governor of Anambra State who was a leading presidential hopeful under the platform of the opposition party resigned his membership on Wednesday

In a letter signed by Obi, the aspirant noted that he is unable to continue pursuing his ambition under PDP following recent development, which some perceive as unfavorable to him.

Sources revealed that the former Governor has been penciled down to become a running mate to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso — a national leader of NNPP — if his eventual defection into the party sails through.

It is however not clear at the time of filing this report who will be presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate between Obi and Kwankwaso if the ongoing meeting is fruitful.

The New Diplomat recalls that there had been a gale of defections into NNPP in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna and other parts of the country.

Ten PDP lawmakers and three APC lawmakers in Kano had recently defected to the NNPP while the deputy speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Zubairu Massu, also on Friday, defected from the APC to NNPP, alongside some other former lawmakers.
