Some unidentified armed men, early Wednesday invaded one of the parishes presided over by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan-Kukah.

It was gathered that the armed men attacked St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The parish is part of the numerous churches under the Sokoto Diocese which Kukah presides over. Kukah’s Sokoto Diocese covers Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States.

During the attack, it was learnt two priests alongside two others were kidnapped by the armed men.

The Director, Social Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Rev. Fr Christopher Omotosho, has also confirmed the attack.

Speaking with the members of the press, Omotosho said the church came under attack during the early hours of Wednesday.

He also confirmed that the parish priest and his assistant Rev. Frs. Stephen Ojapa, MSP, and Oliver Okpara and two boys, were abducted by the armed men.

Omotosho said, “As at midnight of today, 25th May, 2022, gunmen broke into the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gidan Maikambo, Kafur LGA of Katsina State.

“The parish priest and his assistant Rev. Frs. Stephen Ojapa, MSP, and Oliver Okpara and two boys in the house were kidnapped.

“No information as to their whereabouts. Kindly pray for their safety and release.”
