Governor Ganduje Makes Peace With Senator Jibril, Drops Ambition

Emmanuel Onoja

In what appears to be a move to save the Kano State All Progress Congress (APC) from total collapse, Governor Umar Ganduje has shelved his ambition to become a Senator representing Kano North in the forthcoming election.

According to reports, the Governor, who had already purchased the Nomination and Expression of Interest forms met with the incumbent Senator Barau Jibril and other high profile APC members in Abuja, after which it was agreed that the governor should withdraw his candidacy to save the party from further crises.

Confirming the report, APC State Secretary, Zakari Sarina said that the Governor and the Senator have found a common ground.

“Yes, there were tangible understandings between the duo and soon everybody will know this position,” he added.

The New Diplomat recalls that the ruling party in the state has been hit by massive defections as many frontline politicians in the party have moved to the New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP).

Some of the defectors include Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s Chief of Staff, Ali Makoda and the Director-General, Tinubu Support Groups, Abdulmumini Jibrin (former member representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Appropriation during the controversial budget padding).

Others include former Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, a House of Representatives member for Tofa/Dawakin Tofa/Rimingado Constituency, Abdulkadir Jobe and a former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on Legislative affairs, Kawu Sumaila.

Also, the Deputy Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Zubairu Hamza Massu (member representing Sumaila Constituency) and four other members have dumped the party for NNPP.
