downloadOsogbo—Civil servants in Osun State yesterday ignored the directive of the labour leaders in the state  to resume work following the truce reached with the state government over  unpaid salary arrears.

Various offices and schools to monitor the compliance with the directive, showed that the gates and classrooms were under lock and key.

The NLC chairman, Comrade Jacob Adekomi and chairman Joint Negotiation Council, JNC, Comrade Bayo Adejumo, had in a statement in Osogbo on Wednesday ordered workers to resume work immediately.

Furore in Assembly over cttee on anti-Aregbesola petition

Also, controversy yesterday trailed the composition of the ad-hoc committee set up by state House of Assembly to investigate the petition written by a serving judge in the state, Justice Folahanmi Oloyede seeking the investigation of the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola over alleged financial recklessness since coming into office about five years ago.

The speaker of the state assembly Hon. Najeem Salami had announced the constitution of a seven-man committee consisting of members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, during a press briefing in the chamber of the house.

The committee chaired by the deputy speaker, Mr. Adegboye Akintunde (Osogbo) has Owoeye Timothy (Ilesa-East), Adebayo Ajibola (Olorunda), Ogunsola Adeleke (Aiyedire), Olalekan Rsaheed (Ifelodun), Akinola Adufe Olasunkanmi (Irewole) and Oladoyin Folorunsho (Ife-South) as members.

The speaker disclosed that the Director on Legislative Matters and   Director of Legal Services in the state will join the committee and serve at its secretariat.

He said that the committee which has two weeks to submit its report would carry out its assignments in camera.

But the composition of the committee did not go down well with the two minority members from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as they accused the house  of allegedly side lining them.

Speaking after the press conference, the minority leader representing Ife central, Mr. Makinde Oladejo expressed displeasure at the decision of the house saying “we the minority have no confidence in the committee.”

When asked why there was no member of the opposition party in the committee, the Speaker said the committee should comprise of experienced hands and not new members in the house.

Salaam said Governor Aregbesola has forwarded his response to the petition.

He said “After the report was made available to the house, the superior argument of the 26 members that make up the house will prevail and people may be surprised as to the decision of the house.”

He assured that Governor Aregbesola and the petitioner would be summoned to the house to make their cases orally before a final decision is reached.

PDP rejects composition

Meantime, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has rejected the composition of the committee to investigate the petition by Justice Folahanmi Oloyede, against Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The party, in a statement by Prince Diran Odeyemi, the PDP director of media and strategy, said the “lawmakers were not clever enough by deliberately leaving members of the opposition in the house out of the committee”.

The PDP alleged that the lawmakers were acting the script prepared by Governor Aregbesola and are now at the second stage of their plans.
