Former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul Aziz Yari, Senator Kabiru Garba Mafara have both announced their intention to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This revelation was made by the Zamfara state chairman of PDP, Bala Mande on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference in Gusau, the state capital, Mande confirmed that the party received Yari and Marafa, alongside several other supporters.
In his words: “I want to officially announce to you of the joining of our great party, the PDP, by the former Governor, His Excellency, Alhaji Abdul Aziz Yari, Senator Kabiru Garba Mafara and their supporters.”
“They are now PDP members, we have reached an agreement and we are going to implement the agreement.
“We have agreed to work together as one political entity in one party, the PDP for the success of the party in the State.
“We have also agreed to work extra hard to reclaim the lost mandate of Zamfara State in 2023 and save its people from their present predicament.
“I have given the stakeholders a complete update of where we are as a result of this development.”
The New Diplomat recalls that Yari and Marafa have remained at loggerheads with Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state ever since his defection to APC from PDP.
Matawalle got power on the platform of the PDP but dumped the party for APC, a development which led to leadership crisis in the ruling party.
Matawalle ascension was itself through a Supreme Court verdict that declared that the APC in the state didn’t conduct a proper primary elections following disagreement between Mr Yari and a faction led by Mr Marafa.
