The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has revealed that it has granted the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, bail.
The Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Abdulrasheed Bawa made this disclosure during an interview with journalists in Abuja.
Bawa who spokeĀ on the sideline of 5th Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIMA), further added that though Obiano was granted bail, the former governor is yet to perfect his bail conditions and he still in custody.
Speaking further, Bawa clarified that Obiano was not arrested on political reasons contrary to what is being speculated, adding that he is been investigated professionally.
In his words: āThere is nothing political about the investigation. You know what the EFCC stands for.”
āWe have been accused of media trial. But we will continue to do our investigation professionally.ā
Recall that Obiano was nabbed on Thursday at about 8:30pm by the anti-graft agency at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on his way to the United States of America.
The arrest came shortly after he handed over power to the new state governor, Charles Soludo.
According to reports,Ā Obiano is been grilled over alleged misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N42 billion, which include N5bn Sure-P and N37bn security vote which was withdrawn in cash.
