Amid the lingering controversies surrounding the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party has debunked claims that John Akpanudoedehe has resigned from his position as the Secretary of the party’s Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).
The Director of Publicity, APC, Salisu Dambatta made this clarification in a statement issued in Abuja, Saturday.
The clarification comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), rejected an invitation letter signed by Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger and Professor Tahir Mamman as Chairman and Secretary of CECPC respectively.
The Electoral body had said it will decline the invitation of the APC to its emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on the grounds that the letter was neither signed by the recognised Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni and Secretary, Akpanudoedehe respectively.
Giving clarification on the situation, Dambatta denied that Akpanudoedehe had resigned his position following the leadership change in the party.
He asserted that Akpanudoedehe still remains the Secretary of the party’s CECPC while Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger is currently serving as the Acting Chairman.
The statement reads, “We wish to note that the Secretary of the APC CECPC, Akpanudoedehe never sent a resignation letter to the party to the best of its knowledge and neither was he sacked as some social media blogs have speculated.
“All those are utterly false, the APC is one family, the CECPC is one unit.”
