Dr Mashod Olalekan Balogun, has been officially crowned as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan land.
The new Olubadan was handed the staff of office by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State during the coronation ceremony which held in Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
Top dignitaries present at the ceremony include; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa and Osun State Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi.
Also, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; the Deputy Chairman of Oyo State Council of traditional rulers, and the Àà rẹ Ọ̀nà Kakanfò of Yorùbáland, Otunba Gani Adams, among several other prominent citizens also graced the occasion.
The monarch in his maiden speech appreciated all top dignitaries and the people of Ibadan for their support for him to ascend the throne after 36 years as the Mogaji of Ali Iwo. He also assured the people of Ibadan of his total commitment in his time as the Olubadan.
“I want to assure all that I will not let the people of Ibadan down. I will not let the people of Nigeria down,” the new monarch said.
The New Diplomat recalls that Balogun succeeded the 41st Olubadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, who joined his ancestors on Sunday, 2nd of January, 2022.
