The first batch of Nigerian nationals stranded in Ukraine due to the ongoing war in the Eastern European country arrived Nigeria early Friday.

The Nigerians arrived in Abuja from Bucharest, Romania, a country that shares border with crisis-ridden Ukraine.

This is according to an update by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) on its verified Twitter handle.

The commission confirmed that 450 Nigerians from Romania arrived at about 7am on Friday via Max Air flight.

The tweets read: “The passengers, numbering about 450 from Romania, landed at the private jet terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by 7:10 am (WAT) via a Max Air flight  VM602 on Friday.

“They are mostly students who fled Ukraine to Romania following ongoing Russia’s military assault on the Eastern European country.”

Also, the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri, in a tweet on her official Twitter handle confirmed that the first set of evacuees touched down in the country from Bucharest via Max Air.

She tweeted, “To God be the glory Max Air Evacuation flight VM602 from Bucharest touched down in Abuja🇳🇬#NigeriansInUkraine”
