A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, declined a bail request application filed by the embattled police officer Abba Kyari.

The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police and former head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT), instituted a lawsuit against the Federal Government, seeking his release from the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Kyari, in his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22, is seeking an order compelling the NDLEA to grant him bail on health grounds, pending the hearing and determination of his fundamental right enforcement application.

Recall that Kyari had been arrested last week and is being held by the NDLEA over an alleged involvement in the 25kg cocaine deal.

During court proceedings on Monday, Kyari’s legal counsel Cynthia Ikenna, prayed the court to grant his client bail, saying that he is diabetic and hypertensive.

Ruling on the application, the trial judge, Inyang Ekwo, declined the bail application on the grounds that the NDLEA was not informed about the application.

Ekwo then ordered that the NDLEA be put on notice, adjourning the matter until April 24 for the motion to be taken.

The NDLEA had on February 14 disclosed that the embattled Kyari was in its custody after it had initially declared the cop wanted for allegedly aiding and abetting drug pushing and running his own drug cartel.

The declaration by the NDLEA came a few months after the former police intelligence unit commander was indicted over his involvement in a fraud scheme masterminded by an international fraud kingpin, Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi.
