Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun state has been declared as the winner of the governorship primary held by the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday.

The chairman of the governorship primary Committee and Kwara state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq made this declaration early Sunday.

Announcing the result, Abdulrazaq said Oyetola garnered a total of 222,169 votes to defeat his closest rival, Moshood Adeoti who polled 12,921 votes and Lasun Yusuf who scored 460 votes.

He also disclosed that a total of 408,697, voters registered to vote, while 247, 207, were accredited to vote. The total vote cast and valid votes were 235,550.

“I hereby certified that Gboyega Oyetola, having secured the number of highest votes cast at the primary election and having secured all guidelines contained, is hereby declared winner,” Abdulrazaq declared.

With the declaration, Oyetola will fly the APC ticket in the upcoming July 16 gubernatorial election in the Southwest state.

Prior to the primaries, the feud between Oyetola and his predecessor and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola had headlined conversation as the later backed Adeoti to clinch the guber ticket ahead of the former and incumbent Osun Governor.

Already, supporters of Governor Oyetola and that of Aregbesola, have expressed mixed feelings on the conduct of the Saturday’s governorship primary in the state.

While Oyetola’s supporters described the exercise as peaceful and impressive, the Aregbesola’s faction claimed the exercise was full of irregularities.
