The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has come up with a template for sharing power in Kano state, with a view to finding lasting solutions to the lingering crisis in the party.
Critical stakeholders of the Kano state chapter of APC including the two leading figures in the state; Governor Abbdullahi Ganduje and a former governor of the state who is now the senator for Kano Central District, Ibrahim Shekarau, met in Abuja on Saturday. The reconcilatory meeting presided over by Yobe State Governor and Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni
Also present at the meeting are; Governor of Zamfara state Bello Matawalle; former Speaker House of representative, Yakubu Dogara; the three senators from the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, Jibrin Barau and Kabir Gaya as well as other stakeholders.
Durjng the meeting it was gathered that the APC developed a template for sharing power between Ganduje and Shekarau in a bid to broker peace between the two heavyweights.
The duo had locked horns, fighting over the control of the party in the state. Kano APC has been torn by internal crisis, something that has factionalized the party: The Ganduje-led faction and Shekarau-led faction.
The two factions had held parallel congresses and produced two sets of state executives in October.
While Ganduje’s group produced Abdullahi Abbas as state chairman of the party, Shekarau’s camp elected Haruna Danzago to the same position. The crisis has since become a subject of various legal tussles.
Rising from an emergency meeting summoned Saturday night by the APC Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee, the party resolved to share the party positions between the two factions and also send a committee to Kano to ensure compliance with the new sharing template.
In a statement after the Saturday night meeting, spokesman for Shekarau, Sule Yau Sule, confirmed that the party has developed “a template of ALL INCLUSIVENESS” for the APC in Kano.
He said the details of who gets what would be made available to both sides on Monday.
“A high powered committee from the secretariat to be constituted and dispatched to Kano to ensure strict compliance and implementation of the template to be given on Monday,” the statement read.
