The National Information Technology Development Agency, (NITDA), has on Monday said that Nigeria must adopt the 5G network to succeed in digital technology.

The agency affirmed that there is no scientific evidence that the 5G network has any health risk.

According to NITDA, the ICT is now contributing more than oil and gas to Nigeria’s economy.

This was made known by Director General of NITDA, Mr Kashufu Inuwa Abdullahi disclosed this in Kano during an interview with newsmen.

Kashifu asserted that the future is digital and for Nigeria to succeed in the 21st century, it must be digital.

“Before, there was a conspiracy theory that the 5G network has health effects, but there is no scientific evidence.

“Based on the scientific research, the frequency used in microwave, fridges, television and other electronics is more hazardous than the 5G network technology.

“We have new emerging technologies coming up like self-driving cars, artificial intelligence and others, and these technologies are computers; they need a channel of communication, which is 5G network.

“The sooner we embrace it, the better for us, even if we don’t, others will take it,” he added.

“Before this administration, ICT was contributing less than 5% GDP, today ICT is contributing 17.93% GDP,” Kashifu added.
