One of the national leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has refused to comment on the rumoured presidential interests of other aspirants on the platform of the party including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Tinubu said he will not discuss individuals but himself, his capacity and ability to attain the highest seat in the land.

The former governor made this known while addressing state House correspondents on Monday shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

Earlier, The New Diplomat had reported that Tinubu on Monday, confirmed he has officially informed Buhari about his ambition to contest in the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking further during the press briefing, Tinubu declined to comment on some individuals who might contest against him in the APC.

There have been speculations that Vice President Yemi Osibanjo is also interested in contesting for the 2023 presidential election under the platform of APC.

Tinubu who was asked to comment on his possible opponents in the party, said he is not interested in discussing individuals but himself.

In his words, “I don’t want to discuss individuals now, I must discuss myself. I have the confidence, vision and capacity to build on the foundation of the president and turn Nigeria better. I have done that with commitment and yielding zeal in Lagos State.”

Speaking on Buhari’s response to his ambition, Tinubu said the president gave him a go ahead. He added that Buhari is a democrat and will not hinder him to achieve his ‘lifelong ambition.’

He continued, “He’s a democrat, he didn’t ask me to stop. He didn’t ask me not to attempt and pursue my ambition. It’s a lifelong ambition.

“So, why will I expect him to say more than that? Why do you? You are running a democratic dispensation and you must adopt the principles and virtues of democracy.”
