The Imo State government has faulted the claims by former governor of the state, Senator Rochas Okorocha following the arrest of his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu by the police, Sunday.

Okorocha, in his reaction had accused his successor Governor Hope Uzodimma of deceiving the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba to effect the arrest of his son-in-law.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, knocked Okorocha, accusing him of trying to instigate the people against the government.

The commissioner described the claim of Okorocha as untrue and disgusting, saying that the police has every right to arrest anyone found wanting of a crime.

On Sunday, Nwosu was arrested by the Imo state Police Command in a controversial manner. Initially, the media had reported that Nwosu was abducted by some unknown armed men.

However, the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Michael Abattam, debunked the reports, saying Nwosu was arrested by the operatives of the command.

The Commissioner while addressing a press conference on Sunday faulted the reaction of the former governor, saying the police has the right to arrest anyone.

In his words, “What is the haste in this press conference trying to politicise an ordinary thing,” the commissioner said of the briefing convened earlier by the former governor.

“Uche Nwosu is just an indigene of Imo State and a citizen of Nigeria, and if he has run afoul of the law, the police have every right to arrest him, and nobody should dictate to them how they do it.

“It depends on the gravity of the offence, and it depends on the information at their (police) disposal.

“What is painful is that a former governor of this state, Rochas Okorocha, is busy raining abuses on His Excellency, Governor of Imo State [Hope Uzodinma], and saying all manner of things about him. I don’t want to join issues with him.”
