The Lagos State Government on Friday ordered an indefinite closure of Dowen College located in Lekki area of the state.

The state government said the order was to allow investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Sylvester Oromoni, a student of the school.

On December 1, Perri, a family member of Oromoni took to his twitter handle to raise alarm on the death of his cousin.

Perri claimed that Sylvester was assaulted by some of his classmates who wanted to initiate him into a cult group.

“This is my 12-year-old-cousin that was beaten to death at a school that cost over N1m. They tried to put him in a cult, he refused and they killed him. Secondary school o,” Perri said in a series of tweets.

However, the school had since denied the claims, saying that Sylvester died after sustaining an injury during a football match.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has waded into the matter by ordering the closure of Dowen College pending the outcome of the investigation.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, of the Lagos State Ministry of Education.

The statement reads, “The Lagos State Government has ordered the indefinite closure of Dowen College, Lekki, pending the outcome of an investigation into the death of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a student of the school. Commissioner for Education Mrs. Folasade
Adefisayo, t announced the closure after a meeting with the School Management and Staff.

“The commissioner called for calm, saying no effort will be spared in getting to the root of the incident.”
