American billionaire and founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, has commended Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for his actions and commitment in restoring degraded lands in the country.

Bezos met with Buhari alongside France President, Emmanuel Macron; Mauritanian President, Mohamed Ghazouani on the sideline of the ongoing the 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Speaking at the event, the American billionaire heaped praises on Buhari for playing a critical role in the restoration movement as well his commitment to restore 4 million hectares. According to Bezos, the Nigerian President’s action is exemplary.

This was also contained in a statement titled: ‘In Glasgow, American billionaire, Jeff Bezos, hails President Buhari’s climate change actions’ and issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

‘‘We are fortunate to have President Buhari of Nigeria with us today.

‘‘Nigeria plays a critical role in the restoration movement and has pledged to restore 4 million hectares of degraded lands.

‘‘This kind of ambition coming from Africa’s largest economy underscores just how vital this issue is,” Bezos was quoted in the statement.

In his response, Buhari assured of his continued commitment in restoration of degraded lands.

In his words, ‘‘I am optimistic that Africa’s ambition of restoring over 100million hectares of degraded landscape for productive agriculture is achievable,’’ he said.

‘‘Together we commit to the transformative process of restoring the African degraded landscape and ultimately the continent’s environment.”
