The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) concluded its 2021 National Convention, Sunday, with a new set of members elected into the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The convention which began at about 1pm on Saturday at the Eagle Square in Abuja came to an end in the early hours of Sunday. Twenty-one people were elected at the party national convention.

The New Diplomat had reported that over 3,600 delegates claded with Red, White and Green colours of the PDP stormed the Eagle Square to vote for their preferred candidates to take over the affairs of the party ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Shortly after the conclusion of the voting process, Governor of Adamawa state and Chairman of the Convention Organising Committee, Ahmadu Fintiri, declared Iyorchia Ayu as the new National chairman of the party.

Ahead of the convention, the northern stakeholders had agreed to present Ayu as their consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman of the PDP. The decision was accepted by members of the party from other zones.

Also, former Deputy governor of Oyo state, Taofeek Arapaja defeated former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola to win the position of the Deputy National Chairman (South). Arapaja polled a total of 2,004 votes to defeat Oyinlola who polled 705 votes.
