Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has held a closed-door meeting in Abuja with one of the national leaders of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Though the two political figures remain tight-lipped on the reason for the late night meeting, Friday, there are indications that it may not be unconnected with the 2023 politicking and developments in the APC, as well as the state of the nation.
The meeting also held amid whirlwind reports which had suggested that the relationship between Osinbajo and Tinubu, a two-time Governor of Lagos had gone sour.
Both men are said to have their eyes on the number one seat in the country as several groups in the APC have been making a case for their candidature on separate grounds. However, neither Osinbajo nor Tinubu has officially announced bid for the 2023 presidency.
Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu had in a recent statement dismissed reports pitching Osinbajo and Tinubu together.
“It is incumbent on me to state emphatically that neither the Vice President nor his office is aware of this or endorse this kind of a divisive engagement and news reports. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are members of same party. Osinbajo regards Tinubu as a respected leader of a political family to which he belongs and will therefore not for any reason endorse an endeavour that seeks to pitch them against each other.” Ojudu said.
Recall Tinubu recently returned from a medical trip after spending days in London, United Kingdom, where he underwent a knee surgery, according to a statement put out by his media office upon his return to Lagos.
