A 300-level Mass Communication student of University of Lagos, Chidinma Ojukwu made a big claim in court Tuesday as she pleaded not guilty in the murder case of the late Super TV Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Usifo Ataga.
Chidinma who is facing trial at the Lagos State High Court, also denied any involvement in the stealing and forgery allegations against her.
During court proceedings on Tuesday, Chidinma pleaded not guilty when the eight counts bordering on the offences of murder, forgery and stealing, were read to her.
Also, one Adedapo Quadri, an alleged accomplice of Chidinma also denied any involvement in the murder.
The New Diplomat had reported that Chidinma, the prime suspect in the murder of Ataga was apprehended by the Lagos state police command on June 24, 2021.
The Super TV CEO who has since been buried, was found dead on June 15, 2021 at a service apartment in Lekki Area of Lagos State.
Chidinma, while being paraded by the Lagos Police Command confessed that she stabbed Ataga to death. The 21-year-old in her account had said she and the deceased were in a service apartment in the Lekki, smoking and drinking before the incident as a fight broke out between them. She had explained that she stabbed Ataga because he wanted to forcefully have sex with her.
However, Chidinma would later walk back on her earlier confession, saying she didn’t kill Ataga. The 21-year-old suspect said she only admitted her involvement in the crime at the time because nobody believed her.
