Political economist, Prof Pat Utomi has stated that the newly created Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP) is not a political party.

Utomi explained that the RNP is rather a movement created to demand for a better society.

The New Diplomat had reported that Utomi, alongside former INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega; former Governor of Kwara State, Ahmed Abdulfatai; former Governor of Cross River state, Donald Duke; Prof. Tunde Adeniran; Senator Lee Maeba; among others joined forces to establish the RNP.

During the inauguration event, Abdulfatai noted that the movement was created to provide solutions to the crisis rocking the country.

Meanwhile, speculations has since emerged that Utomi and others are making moves to register the RNP as a political party. It was reported that the party would be announced October 1.

However, Utomi at a press conference said the group and similar others were more interested in getting competent leaders into office, irrespective of the political party platform.

“No, I don’t think it (Third Force) is going to be a political party. We need to gather some of these movements, moving towards a better society,” he said.

This is also coming after the immediate past governor of Kwara State had declared that he is still an active member of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite been a founding member of the RNP.
