Romelu Lukaku’s ruthless form continues on Saturday as his brace helped Chelsea to a convincing victory over Aston Villa at the Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku struck in the first half to put Chelsea ahead after excellent work in midfield by Mateo Kovacic. In the second period, the Croatian midfielder got on the scoresheet following a mistake by Tyrone Mings.

Aston Villa had chances throughout and Edouard Mendy had to be at his best to repel several efforts from the visitors. Thiago Silva, on his first Premier League start of the season, was also hugely impressive.

It was in second-half stoppage time the contest was firmly put to bed as Lukaku fired in a second goal from the edge of the penalty area.

Tuchel will be pleased with certain aspects of his side’s display but he will know there is plenty to work on. Saul Niguez’s debut is also a talking point as the Spaniard struggled on his first start and was replaced at the break.
