With a few clear days to the September 11, Isoko South Constituency I by-election, the All Progressives Congress Campaign train led by the Deputy President of Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has hit the ground running across the five wards of the Constituency with a charge to mobilize the grassroots for its candidate, Dr. Ogaga Ifowodo.
The flag-off of the party’s campaign which took place in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area, was attended by party heavyweights led by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Omo-Agege.
Kicking off the flag-off with a highly inspiring speech, Omo-Agege urged the crowd gathered to send a message to Gov. Okowa and the PDP that enough is enough. He drew the attention of the people to the strategic position of the Isoko land to the contribution of the economic wealth of the nation, adding that the bulk of revenue from 13% accruing to Delta State from the federation account is derived from oil gotten from Isoko land and a few other places in the State.
According to the national lawmaker, there is no where in Isoko land where there is the presence of the State government that is commensurate with the contributions coming from the area, adding that the wealth of the State is currently concentrated in Owa Alero, Gov. Okowa’s country home where there is neither a drop of crude oil or even natural gas.
“We are here today to send a message to the Delta State government that enough is enough. We are here to appeal to the people of Oleh, the people of Irri, the people of Emede which make up Isoko South Constituency I, to send this message to Okowa, to the PDP that enough is enough.
“Everybody knows how important the Isoko land is to the economy of Nigeria. Isoko contribute so much to the economy of this country. But for all of the contributions, there is nothing to show for it in Isoko land.
“Every month, the federal government through FAAC, releases fund to Delta State. Also, the state gets 13% from derivation. In the entire Isoko nation, there is nothing commensurate to their contribution.
“Meanwhile, Okowa village, Owa Alero, which is today being referred to as mini-London is contributing nothing to the economy of Delta State. But here in Oleh where you have the faculty of law and faculty of engineering, they look like glorified primary schools.
“The situation is like this because those whom Isoko people have sent to the House of Assembly to represent them have been like house boys. Gold is sold to those who know its value. The era of Isoko people sending house boys to the Delta State House of Assembly has gone.
“It is time for the Isoko people to send to the State House of Assembly, someone who would look at Okowa face to face and tell him, that he knows the right of his people and their need. The only man who Okowa will be afraid of and who he knows would never entertain nonsense is Dr. Barr. Ogaga Ifowodo.
“Ogaga Ifowodo has done it before and is prepared to do it again. He had at one time of the other stood his ground to protect the interest of Nigerians before. That is the kind of man that will be sent to the State House of Assembly to protect the interest of Isoko nation.
“Everybody should go back to his unit, ward, talk to one another that they should come out to vote for Ogaga as a member of the State House of Assembly. They should vote for APC because that is what you will find in the ballot paper”, DSP said.
Also speaking at the occasion, the State chairman of the party, Prophet Jones Erue, enjoined all members to come out en masse to usher the party to victory come September 11.
He welcomed several decampees who joined the APC from the PDP, assuring them that “in APC, there are no old-comers nor new-comers”, adding that the wages of every member is dependent on their performances.
The train visited Irri ward 10 and 11 today, in continuation of the campaign.
