Staunch environmentalist and civil rights Comrade, Philip Jakpor, has officially tied the nuptial knot with his beautiful wife, Onome, finally putting the icing on the cake, Saturday.

The marriage ceremony and dowry payment held in Lagos amid pomp as kith and kin in the Nigerian civil society movement and the media graced the event to celebrate one of their very own.

Before now, the couple’s white wedding had taken place on September 4, 2015 and the Saturday’s traditional ceremony capped the union and deepened family ties in line with tradition. “We gave unto God in 2015, now we give unto Caesar in 2021,” Jakpor said in an appreciation post, while linking the two events of necessity in the African marriage culture.

The best of Urhobo cultural elements was on display during the marriage rites which had preceded the ceremony and reception, where the family of Benjamin Edohore of Uwheru, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta gave out their daughter in marriage to the family of late Martin Jokiteh Jakpor of Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta.

Away from the busy and disruptive world of activism for a moment — his forte — ebullient Jakpor, an environmental devotee in the country, donned complete Urhobo attire alongside his elegant wife, Onome as they both regaled guests on the dancing floor to celebrate the lasting union.

See pictures from the ceremony:

Currently holding forth as the Director of Programmes at Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA), Jakpor has had a successful journalism career before venturing into activism with Environmental Rights Action Friends of the Earth Nigeria.

His activism work of over a decade has continued to beam searchlight on the ill-activities of evasive transnational corporations that have held Nigerians and authorities captive, leading grassroots movement in Africa to demand best global practices in sectors like Oil and Gas, environment and the shadowy tobacco industry among others.
