The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Yemi Akinwonmi, on Tuesday, led a two-man delegation to the residence of former president, Goodluck Jonathan.

Akinwonmi was accompanied by the former caretaker secretary of the PDP in Southwest, Daisi Akintan and a member of the National Executive Committee, Mrs Helen Taiwo.

The meeting is coming in the wake of the current leadership crisis rocking the party and was held behind Closed-door lasting for hours.

Speaking with the members of the newsmen, an internal source disclosed that the meeting discussed the interest of PDP ahead of the upcoming party’s national convention and the general elections.

The source added that Akinwonmi visited Jonathan in order to seek advice from the former president on how to amicably resolve the crisis bedeviling the party. The source also stated that Akinwonmi, alongside other members of the delegation team pleaded with Jonathan not to forsake the PDP at this critical time. The acting National Chairman was said to have urged Jonathan to be active in the affairs of PDP.

“The South West team were with the former President to appeal to him not to abandon the party.

“They also appealed to him to show more than a passing interest in the affairs of the party by becoming more actively involved in the activities of the party. The former President assured the team that he would not abandon the party,” the source reportedly stated.
