The armed bandits who abducted students and staff of the College of Agriculture and Animal Science located in Bakura Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State have demanded for a total sum of N350 million to secure the release of their victims.
The provost of the college Habibu Mainasara, disclosed this while speaking during an interview session with the Channels on Tuesday.
The provost also disclosed that a total of 20 persons were abducted during the attack, which included 15 students, 4 staff, and a driver.
According to him, the armed bandits invaded the school premises at about 11pm on Sunday and abducted the students and staff of the college.
Also, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has condemned the recent attack on the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, while assuring that government is working effortlessly to secure the release of the students and staff abducted by the bandits.
The governor also commended the immediate action of the security agencies to launch search and rescue strategies to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and staff still in captivity.
This was contained in a statement issued by Matawalle’s spokesman, Yusuf Gusau, on Monday.
The governor, in the statement, also appealed to residents to remain calm, saying that the government is working to secure the lives and properties of the residents in the state.
The statement reads, “Governor Matawalle who is seriously saddened with the resurgence of school abduction in the state by recalcitrant bandits is, however, thankful to God for the prompt response of the security agencies to the school to reinforce the already stationed security at the school which also led to the successful rescue of three out of the four abducted staff of the institution,” the statement said.
“The governor directed the security operatives in the state to intensify efforts and rescue all the abductees, promising to do everything humanly possible to rescue them unhurt.”
