The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has commenced the probing of some of its staff who have been allegedly fingered to be indulging in extortion, sexual harassment, among other despicable acts.
The Vice Chancellor, UNICAL, Michael Okon, in a memo dated 10th of August, 2021, obtained by The New Diplomat disclosed that the management of the varsity was aware of some lecturers, alongside other staff who have revived ‘abhorrable’ acts like demanding for sex from femal students, conducting exams for some students at homes or hotels.
Okon further added that all the staff that have been allegedly fingered in such acts will be made to face a dispensary committee, assuring that justice will prevail.
While condemning the obnoxious acts, the Vice Chancellor also sent stern warnings to staff indulging in such acts to desist and repent.
The statement reads, “It has come to the knowledge of Management that some teaching staff have revived the obnoxious and abhorrable acts of sorting, extortion and sex for grades/sexual harassment.
“Some departments and lecturers have been significantly fingered and investigations have commenced. Management also has information to the effect that lecturers have resorted to giving students scripts to write exams at homes, hotels and relaxation places.
“All those involved in these despicable activities are hereby warned to desist and repent. In fact, they will soon be invited to interact with the disciplinary committee.”
