The legal team of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has revealed its next plan as the Department of State Services (DSS) failed to produce their client during court proceedings on Monday.

Kanu who was arrested by the Federal Government of Nigeria and extradited to the country last month is currently facing trial on charges bordering on treasonable felony, terrorism, among other allegations.

The IPOB’s leader has since been remanded in the custody of the DSS.

The separatist leader was meant to appear before the Federal High Court, Abuja on Monday but that didn’t happen as the DSS failed to bring him out of detention. The DSS cited logistics difficulties for their failure to provide him in court.

The absence of Kanu also stalled the court proceeding as Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, adjourned trial till October 21, 2021, on the grounds that the trial cannot continue in the absence of the IPOB leader.

Meanwhile, a member of Kanu’s legal team, Aloy Ejimakor, who took to his official twitter account said Kanu’s legal team is working to secure the release of their client.

He added that they are going to pursue the release of Kanu through “coordinated steps.”

“To the multitudes asking me the way forward after the hearing yesterday, below is the answer:

“The very next step is to pursue the release of His Excellency from detention through the coordinated steps of the Legal Team in Nigeria & UK. We intend to succeed, sooner than later,” he tweeted.
