Aloy Ejimakor, one of the lead counsels to the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has said the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have allegedly restricted his client from signing a consular assistance form by the United Kingdom (UK).

Kanu who was arrested by the Federal Government from an undisclosed location and has since been remanded in the custody of the DSS.

He is also currently facing charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, among weighty allegations.

Following his arrest, Kanu, who is also a British citizen had written to the British High Commission in Nigeria, seeking for a consular assistance and an unconditional release from the custody of the DSS.

According to the letter written by Ejimakor, Kanu’s valid British passport was forcefully seized by security operatives.

In a new development, Ejimakor revealed that the UK has responded and has granted Kanu the consular assistance, however, the DSS allegedly stopped the separatist leader from signing the form.

Consular assistance is help and advice provided by the diplomatic agents of a country to citizens of that country who are living or traveling overseas.

Meanwhile, Ejimakor, in a statement disclosed that operatives of DSS are currently delaying Kanu from signing two forms that will enable him seek consular and diplomatic intervention from the UK.

According to the lawyer, the refusal of the secret police to allow Kanu sign the letter is an indication that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government was determined to isolate Kanu and stop him from gaining diplomatic assistance.
