  • Traditionalists Storm Venue… Police Tear-gas Protesters

The Yoruba Nation rally in Lagos has turned rowdy and bloody as sporadic gunshots were reportedly fired by security operatives present at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota.

According to reports, a stray bullet has killed a 14-year-old girl near the protest venue, further igniting the protesters’ outrage.

The yet-to-be-identified girl was said to be displaying drinks at the front of her shop in Ojota when the stray bullet hit her.

Also, there was panic at the scene as some traditionalists dressed in their white attire alongside other Yoruba nation agitators dared the security operatives by spreading their banners and chanting solidarity songs.

Security operatives reportedly tear-gassed the protesters, fired shots and hot water from an armoured tank in a bid to disperse the crowd.

Recall the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had warned the Yoruba Nation agitators that no protest would be allowed in Lagos State.

However, the Yoruba nation agitators stormed the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos State despite huge security presence there.

Security operatives surrounded the scheduled converging point of the protesters in Ojota since late Friday to forestall the protest.

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, soldiers and Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps were all at the venue.

It was gathered that the security operatives at the venue were fully armed with armoured personnel carriers, Hilux trucks and others.

The Yoruba Nation protesters held the protest in respect of their demand for the establishment of a Yoruba Nation. The protest comes less than 72 hours after the home of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho was attacked by DSS on Thursday in the Soka area of Ibadan.

Igboho has now gone underground following the manhunt launched by the DSS for him.

The New Diplomat earlier reported that the secessionist agitator has debunked the viral report of his arrest by the DSS at Guru Maharaj Ji Camp in Ibadan, saying he’s in his house.
