The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reportedly killed many fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), during an airstrike operation in Lamboa, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday.

In multiple airstrikes conducted by Alpha-Jets, L-39 and MI-35 helicopters of the NAF, the logistics commander of the terrorist group, Modu Sulum alongside several other fighters were killed, according a report by the PRNigeria.

According to the report, Sulum was part of the ISWAP fighters that invaded the base of Boko Haram, of which led to the death of its leader, Abubakar Shekau in May.

Recall that The New Diplomat had reported that the fighters of the ISWAP engaged the Boko Haram fighters in a fierce battle.

Shekau who knew the intention of the ISWAP fighters was to capture him alive was said to have detonated a bomb and killed himself.

Meanwhile, the NAF have now reportedly eliminated Sulum who was also responsible for the destructions of power transmission towers at Malanari along Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway and attacks on travellers in Auno and Jakana and several other attacks.

According to the report, ground and air troops scuttled their mission after NAF reconnaissance platform hovered over the location to confirm the targets.

The NAF Director of Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet has also commended the troops for a successful operation.

He applauded the vigour and synergy by all segments of the Armed Forces in the North-East theatre.

“Of the eight terrorist gun trucks sighted by our surveillance team, the aircraft took out six and an unconfirmed number of terrorists.

“Nigerian Army troops and our air elements are mopping up the area and assessing the situation”, the spokesman told PRNigeria.

The New Diplomat also recall that this is coming few days after President Muhammadu Buhari visited Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

During the one-day working visit on Thursday, Buhari appraised the security situation at the Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai, Mamalari Cantonment.
