As early as 7:00 am on Friday 12th, May 2017, the major roads leading in and out of Minna metropolis, especially those leading to the Hilltop mansion of the Babangidas, were taken over by heavily armed security personnel stationed at every strategic junction and spots.

​No fewer than 400 policemen and 135 members of civil defence have been detailed for the event, while police and Air Force helicopters hover around the Airport and venue of the wedding.

 

The wedding took place amid concerns over the General’s health. IBB recently returned from Germany, where he sought some medical help. Since then, he has kept off from public functions.

Governor​ ​Abubakar Bello was at the Airport to welcome guest coming from across the country. ​G​ov​ernor​ Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, Gov​ernor ​Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa as well as the Minister of state for Mineral Resource, Alhaji Abubakar Bwari ​arrived equally.

Halimat is the second daughter and last child of the family. She was born by his late wife, Maryam while the military ruler presided over the affairs of the country at Dodan Barracks in Lagos.

Babangida ruled from Lagos between August 1985 until 1991 when he shifted the seat of government to Abuja.

The groom is Alhaji Auwal Lawal Abdullahi, a businessman, who holds the traditional title of Sarkin Sudan Gombe, he paid a symbolic bride price of N500,000 and 10 cows to her father.
