Manchester City’s defender, Ruben Dias has been named as the 2020/21 Premier League Player of the Season.
Dias, who joined Man City last summer has been awarded the player of the season award for his remarkable impact in his team.
Dias played a significant role in securing the Premier league trophy for his side this season.
Dias has now completed an individual award double after winning the prestigious Football Writers’ Association award in May.
The man City defender bagged the prestigious award at the expense of his City team-mate Kevin De Bruyne, who won the Premier League Player of the Season award last season – and Tottenham striker Harry Kane who had the most goals in the Premier League in 20-21 season (23) and the most assists in the Premier League in 20-21(14).
Other players shortlisted for the Premier League’s best player award, are Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes; Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish; and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah; West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek and Chelsea’s Mason Mount were also nominated.
Dias who joined Man City from Benfica last summer for £65m, made 32 league appearances for his side this season, scoring one goal and registering 15 clean sheets.
Similarly, Man City’s manager, Pep Guardiola has also been awarded the PL Manager of the season.
Guardiola managed his side to PL trophy victory, making it his thrid Premier League titles in four seasons at Man City.
Guardiola beat off Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, West Ham’s David Moyes, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers and Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to win the award.
Guardiola’s team boasted the most goals scored (83) and the least goals conceded (32) across the campaign and produced a remarkable 15-match winning streak mid-season.
