The Court of Appeal in Benin, Edo state, on Wednesday, upheld the victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki at the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state.
This is as the court thrashed a suit filed by the Action Democratic Party (ADP), seeking to quash the Governor’s victory.
ADP sought to disqualify Obaseki on grounds of alleged certificate forgery and dual party nomination.
The Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice M.A. Owoade, however, dismissed the suit on grounds that it lacks merit.
The New Diplomat had reported that the Edo 2020 Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had also dismissed a petition filed by the ADP against Obaseki’s re-election.
The ADP petitioners also contended the outcome of the election on the basis that Obaseki presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for the purpose of the election.
