The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Saturday has announced the extension of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the Direct Entry (DE) registration by two weeks.

JAMB’S registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede made this announcement during a press conference in Abuja.

According to Oloyede, the extension of the date became necessary following the reported challenges experienced by some candidates during the registration exercise.

He stated that some of the challenges experienced included non-compliance with the registration process, wrong National Identification Number (NIN) to generate profile code and multiple phone numbers to generate the code.

The Jamb boss further disclosed that a total of 1,134,424 candidates have so far registered as of the time the press conference was held.

Prior to the announcement, many candidates have made complaints on the registration process of the UTME and DE registration. Some candidates had complained about the decision of the examination board to mandate the NIN as a requisite for the registration.

In March, Jamb announced that NIN is a compulsory requirement to register for the 2021 UTME registration.
