Convener and National Coordinator of Abia League of Professional Initiatives (ALPI), Chief Sonny Iroche has saluted Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for awarding five-year scholarship to a young innovator, Mr Solomon Ukaoha, who designed and built an electricity transformer from local materials.

The mini transformer built by 24-year-old Ukaoha from Ohafia local government area of Abia state works with crude oil.

Governor Ikpeazu, while receiving the young innovator on Monday at the government house, Umuahia said he awarded the scholarship to Ukaoha to enable him further his education in any tertiary institution of his choice.

Reacting to the Governor’s gesture, Iroche, who is a power sector consultant and an Executive Director of Finance and Accounts of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said more good gestures are needed to spur more young innovators in the country to new heights.

Iroche said: “the same manner in which the ALPI criticizes government when they err, is the same positive zest in which it gives kudos to government, when they make positive initiatives which impact on the citizenry.”

He also called on the Abia Governor and his colleagues in the South East to “effectively tackle the escalating and frightening security situation in the region, before it snowballs into uncontrollable national disaster of unimaginable proportion.”

The New Diplomat had reported that ALPI is an incorporated non-governmental organisation, committed to good governance, peace, justice and economic development and growth of Abia State and the South East region.
