The Federal High Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, was set ablaze by some unidentified hoodlums in the early hours of Tuesday.

It was gathered that the hoodlums attacked the court premises with petrol bombs.
According to reports, the library and the security post buildings of the court have been razed down. Many court records have also been feared destroyed.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Ebonyi State Police Command, Mrs Loveth Odah, has also confirmed the incident. According to her, some suspected arsonists attacked the court premises in the early hours of Tuesday.

Odah also disclosed that a detachment of the Nigerian Mobile Police (MOPOL) has been drafted to the area to secure the court premises and the affected area.
She further noted that no arrest had been made but the police had begun investigation into the attack.

She also gave assurance that all perpetrators shall be brought to book.
“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Aliyu Garba, has promised to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Odah added.

The attack on the Federal High Court in Ebonyi has now joined the long list of the cases of attacks on public institution currently rocking Southeast.
On April 19, some unidentified hoodlums attacked the Zone 13 Police Headquarters in Ukpo, Anambra State.

The New Diplomat had reported that the hoodlums set ablaze part of the buildings in the headquarters while several other properties were destroyed.
Similarly, The New Diplomat had reported that some unidentified hoodlums attacked the Imo State Police Headquarters and the Correctional facility on April 5.

According to the Nigerian Correctional  Service(NCS), the hoodlums gained entrance into the facility using explosives to blast their way in and subsequently released about 1, 884 inmates.

The Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma‘s country home in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area(LGA) of Imo state, was attacked and set ablaze by some hoodlums.

Also, The New Diplomat had reported that the Governors of the Southeast had announced the establishment of a joint security outfit  codenamed “Ebube Agu”. According to the governors, the security outfit will address the worsening insecurity in the region.
