Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo Socio-political organization, has declared that it is Igbo’s turn to produce the president of Nigeria and the Igbos are ready to seek the support of the rest of the country to make it a reality.

According to the group, the agitation of the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) is actually against the marginalization of the Igbos and several other acts of injustice against its people.

The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, George Obiozor, stated this during an interview session with Arise TV on Tuesday.

According to him, IPOB is not seeking to establish its own nation, but it wants an Igbo president, just like the rest of Igbos.

The most important thing that will happen to the Igbos, he said, is having a President from the South East in the upcoming 2023 Presidential election.

His words, “Who told you all the people in IPOB want secession? They want justice. Just like the rest of the Igbos. They want the country’s attention to the relative deprivation that Igbos are facing; to the glass ceilings that prevent Igbos from certain goals within their own country. That is what IPOB and Biafra people are talking about.

“We support Igbo President with open arms. It is the most important thing that will happen to Ibos. Finally it is our turn. And we are going to work hard. We will talk to other parts of Nigeria to give us a chance, because it is right, reasonable, deserved and timely. It is wonderful to consider it done by this time. Igbo presidency is our agenda.”

IPOB was founded in 2012 by Nnamdi Kanu to kick-start the agitation for self-determination.

Kanu had at different times criticized the government of Nigeria for its inequitable resource distribution and ethnic marginalization of the Igbos.
