His Royal Majesty (HRM), Oba David Oyewumi, the Obadu of Ilemeso in Oye Local Government Area (LGA) of Ekiti State, has been abducted by gunmen.
It was gathered that some gunmen stormed Ilemeso-Ekiti, a neighbouring town to Isan-Ekiti, country home of Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.
The incident has also been confirmed by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Ekiti State Command, ASP Sunday Abutu.
He described the incident as “unfortunate and regrettable’’.
According to Abutu, gunmen invaded the traditional ruler’s palace in the late hours of Thursday and abducted him.
He, however, stated that the security agencies are on currently on top of the situation, appealing to the residents of the area not to panic.
In his words, “Yes, the incident happened yesterday, (Thursday night) at the Oba’s palace. We are already doing everything necessary to rescue him and apprehend the culprits,’’ he said.
It was also gathered from eye witnesses account that six suspected gunmen invaded the palace. The abductors reportedly scaled the palace’s fence and fired several shots into the air to scare its occupants.
However, as of press time, the abductors of the monarch have not made any demands.
It would be recalled also that recently, Oba Adetutu Ajayi, the Elewu of Ewu Ekiti, escaped an attempted attack at Isan Ekiti, on the Ewu-Ayetoro road.
Some gunmen had laid an ambush for Oba Ajayi in an attempt to kidnap him, however, the attack was foiled.
