According to him, the decision to disband the monitoring units in Lagos and Port Harcourt, was reached over frequent reported complaints of harassment against the operatives of the affected units.

He also added that the police will instead focus on re-organising the teams to enhance their operation.

Baba, who assumed office on April 7, had vowed to stamp out the excesses and abuses and the culture of immunity demonstrated by some operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

He had acknowledged that there was need for improvement in the operations of the police.

Recall also that in October 2020, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad was disbanded by the immediate past IGP, Adamu Mohammed, over reported cases of assault and brutality.
