Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo wowed onlookers in Owu, Abeokuta on Tuesday as he was seen exchanging elbow greeting with a masquerade in a picture made available by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Kehinde Akinyemi.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, humanity has ditched handshake for elbow greeting and other creative forms of exchanging pleasantries to stop the virus spread around the world.

In many African societies where traditional religion still holds sway, masquerades are seen as the representatives of the ‘gods.’

And in this instance, Obasanjo, himself a comedian-in-chief in his funny persona just told the world that even the ‘gods’ can relate with the greeting of the time to stop the rampaging Coronavirus.

The contagion that has killed over 2.9 million people globally (WHO) and 2,061 (NCDC) in Nigeria alone, according to the latest official figures released Tuesday.

The incident took place at the palace of the Olowu of Owu, Oba Dosunmu, at Oke Ago Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Obasanjo holds the high chief title — Balogun of Owu, one of the ancient kingdoms that makes up the present day Egbaland.
