Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has hailed his players for bouncing back after their heavy 5-2 defeat against relegation struggling West Brom at the weekend.

Recall Chelsea have had a 14 run of games without loss, prior to the West Brom defeat.

Thomas Tuchel demanded a reaction, and he says that he saw such a response the day after the defeat at the weekend in training, so he knew his players were ready to put things right.

With goals from Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, Chelsea have now put themselves in a perfect position to qualify for the semi finals of the Champions League, and although the result was excellent, the performance was a little gritty.

Tuchel though, was pleased with the spirit of his players, as he explained after the match, via Goal.

He said:“It was a tough match against a strong Porto side. There were many moments where we suffered. We accepted it. The circumstances are a bit different in a quarter-final. The spirit was good and it was an excellent result.

“I was pretty sure about that [they’d react well after the WBA defeat]. I saw a response immediately in the dressing room and the next day. That wasn’t a big concern. We were ready to respond. There will always be setbacks in sports. The biggest challenge is to bounce back.

“We had a lot of excellent results together, then we had a loss together and then a reaction after a loss together. That brings us closer together and increases the trust.”
