Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has reacted after his team suffered their first defeat and returned from an international break with a 5-2 home defeat to relegation scrappers, West Brom today.

Chelsea took an early lead through Christian Pulisic, but Thiago Silva’s second yellow card just before the half-hour mark proved the game’s defining flashpoint.

Sam Allardyce’s Baggies went on to score five goals against the 10-man hosts – a remarkable turn up for the books, given Chelsea’s defensive record under Tuchel.

In the German coach’s first 14 matches in charge in all competitions, Chelsea kept 12 clean sheets and just conceded two goals – with only one scored by the opposition.

Reacting to this in an interview with Newmen after the match, Tuchel made no excuses, but stressed that everything that could go wrong did go wrong:

“It was clearly not our day today”.

“Everything that went wrong, went wrong. Every shot from them was a goal.

“It was clearly not our day today. I did not see it coming.”

Tuchel recently won the English Premier League manager for the month of march, beating Graham Potter, Brendan Rodgers and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to receive the award for the first time since arriving in England.
