A former acting Governor of Delta State, Prince Sam Obi, is dead.

Obi, also a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly was reported to have been ill before his death. His last public appearance was on March 31, 2022, at the annual lecture of Marie Trust Council, held at the Unity Hall of Government house, Asaba, Delta State.

Obi was the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015, during the administration of former Delta Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.

He represented Ika North-East Constituency at the State House of Assembly.

He emerged as the acting governor of Delta in November 2010 after the Court of Appeal, in Benin, Edo State, nullified the election of Uduaghan as Governor of the State.

However, he only acted as governor for three months before Uduaghan was later reinstated as governor.

He was also known for his religious activities. He was the founder of Oracle of God Ministries, which has its headquarters in Asaba.
