The Nigerian Army has claimed another major success in its campaign against Boko Haram terrorists with scores of the insurgents reportedly neutralised.

According to a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, troops deployed in Chibok under 28 Task Force Brigade of Sector 1 Operation LAFIYA DOLE had successfully  ambushed the militants along Chibok – Damboa axis of Borno State following intelligence that some insurgents were fleeing the  intensity of troops’ operations in Sambisa Forest.

Nine terrorists were killed in the process while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. The troops also recovered seven AK 47 rifles and freed three kidnapped victims.

In another encounter, troops of 28 Task Force Brigade located in Askira  successfully ambushed insurgents  along Askira – Chibok Main Supply Route (MSR) neutralizing  39 terrorists in the operation.

Eight kidnapped victims were rescued though one sustained injury to his leg while in the hands of his abductors. Eight  AK 47 rifles with four magazines were recovered among other items.

The troops are on the trail of fleeing terrorists, the statement added.

According to the statement, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, commended the troops, urging them to remain dogged in their offensive until the area is rid of all terrorists.

He also urged members of the public to keep providing credible information to the troops and other security agencies operating within their localities.
