President Muhammadu Buhari and Benue Governor Samuel Ortom held a closed door meeting on Tuesday at the State House, Abuja.

Unknown gunmen had on Saturday opened fire on Ortom’s convoy along the Makurdi-Gboko highway.

The Governor said he was returning from his farm on Saturday when some suspected herdsmen dressed in black stormed out of bushes and started shooting in his direction.

Reacting to the attack on the Governor, President Muhammadu Buhari had on Sunday ordered the Inspector General of Police to carry out a transparent and thorough investigation into the circumstance that led to the attack and other criminal activities in Benue state.

He noted that the string of brutal attacks on individuals and communities in the state, with the latest one targeting the governor, was unacceptable.

Also, the Nigeria Governors Forum has described the attack as “rude” and “shocking.
