O’odua Youth Parliament (OYP) a Yoruba socio-cultural group, has cautioned Popular O’odua activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, over his declaration of the readiness of the Yoruba to secede from Nigeria, adding that he should tread carefully on his activism for the Yoruba nation.

Igboho, in a viral video, had called on the global community and the United Nations (UN) to separate the Yorubas from Nigeria, stating that the Yorubas are no longer interested in being a part of Nigeria.

Igboho, in the viral video, also advised all the Yorubas in the North to return to the South West.

Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, Osun State, Comrade Abdulmajeed Oyeniyi, Speaker of OYP, cautioned Igboho on his comments, stating that he lacked the moral and legal backing to call for the secession of the Yorubas.

Oyeniyi also distanced the entire Yoruba nation from what he called the ‘misguided statements’ of Igboho, adding that his statements do not represent the opinion of the Yoruba nation.

“Chief Igboho lacks the moral and legal backing to open Nigeria’s border as he promised to do and call for Yoruba secession, No to 2023 elections and that all Yorubas domiciled in the North to come back home,” OYP declared.

The group advised the Yoruba activist to imbibe the culture of Omoluabi (virtuousness), which Yorubas are known for.

OYP also condemned the Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) for issuing a 72-hour ultimatum eviction notice to Yorubas resident  in the North.

In a reaction to Igboho’s declaration of the Yoruba Nation, the AYA, had issued an ultimatum to Igboho to evacuate the Yorubas from the North, threatening that they will personally evacuate the Yorubas from the North if Igboho fails to comply with the deadline.

OYP noted that the 1999 Constitution allows every Nigerian to reside in any part of the country, adding that the AYA should immediate retract the vacation notice.

“… it important to note that no Nigerian is more Nigerian than others. However, the Nigeria constitution allows every Nigerians to reside in any part of the country and go about their legitimate ways of life. Arewa Youths should also note that Northern elites have businesses and are equally living all across the south,” the OYP spokesman declared.

He advised all Nigerians to cooperate in finding lasting solutions to the security challenges ranging from Boko-Haram, banditary to killer Fulani herdsmen rather than issuing divisive statements.

He also called on the Federal Government to reopen the Southwest borders as the closure has jeopardised and crippled many business opportunities within and outside the country.

Igboho has been in the news since he gave a seven-day ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen in Ibarapa area of Oyo State to vacate the area.
