Fifteen-time Albanian champions FK Partizani Tirana on Wednesday confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker Matthew Boniface.

Boniface joins the capital city side till the end of the 2016/17 season and was presented with the number 9 jersey.

The striker explained why he joined the Albanian side.

“To be honest I am very happy to be a part of Partizani here in Albania. I believe that Partizan have made the right choice. My mind was always to be part of this championship because it is strong enough and high quality.

“Why I chose Partizani? The reason was because Partizani showed willingness to make me part of it. And club executives have been very kind to me, I would say, as a parent expresses love to a child and it made me very impressed and appreciated,” Boniface said to the club’s website after his unveiling.

The striker, who will wear the number nine jersey, also took time to talk about his new squad number and why he prefers it.

“I’ve always preferred the number 9 jersey but have yet to play with it. I went for it without thinking twice when the officials informed me it was available,” Boniface said.

The big forward, who started his career with Abuja outfit Supreme Court FC in Nigeria’s lower division, can take on opposing defenders in one-on-ones, packs cannons in his boots and is a threat in the air.

Boniface begins his Partizani career with a training camp in Turkey where they will play Emmanuel Emenike’s Fenerbahce and Azerbaijani side Qarabag.
