Bandits reportedly invaded the Kaduna  International Airport early Saturday, abducting nine from the residential quarters of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The gunmen were said to have accessed the facility through the runway 05 of the airport.

According to reports, the nine persons abducted include a family of six and a housewife with her two children living in the quarters.

Report by The Nation said the bandits wielding AK 47s and RPGs would have succeeded in abducting the entire residents living in the FAAN quarters, but thanks to the soldiers who were alerted to engage the gunmen. The soldiers reportedly fired several gunshots upon getting information on the bandits’ operation.

The sporadic gunshots were said to have quickly forced the gunmen to flee the scene with the nine captives they succeeded in carting away

A resident was quoted to have said: “Initially when I started hearing gunshots, I was not even bothered, because I thought whoever came here to rob or do anything has made a mistake of his life because we have a military barrack at the airport.

“But, I later became restless when after like 30 minutes, bullets were still raining.

‘’Along the line, the soldiers came in and engaged the bandits in a serious gun battle.

“But the soldiers could only prevent them from picking more people because the bandits came with two RPG alongside their many AK47 rifles.” the report said.

However, the bandits later went away on motorcycles with the nine abductees.

Efforts to get reaction from the Kaduna Police Command on the attack was not immediately successful as of the time of this reporting.
