Bulus Yikura, a pastor of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, (Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria, EYN) who was abducted by terrorist organisation, Boko Haram has been released.

He was released in the late hours of Wednesday after spending 10 weeks in Boko Haram’s captivity.

Yikura, was abducted on December 24, 2020, when the terrorists attacked Pemi village, Borno State. Seven people were reportedly killed in the attack.

Last week, a video clip surfaced on social media, showing Yikura, clamouring for help, after the terrorists had given him a week deadline to cry out for help.

In the video, pastor Yikura said his abductors threatened to kill him, if no one comes to his rescue at the end of the one week deadline. He pleaded for the assistance from the federal government and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and well-meaning Nigerians.

In his words: “I have been given only seven days to appeal for assistance that will help me out of this torture. If truly you want to rescue me from this untold suffering and threat to life, then you have to act fast. I am also calling on the EYN president to help mobilise help that will rescue me, and also pray for me so that God will make things easy for me here.”

However, Yikura has been released on Wednesday evening, after spending 10 weeks in captivity.

The pastor is presently at the Department of State Services (DSS) command in Maiduguri.
